Stagmont Striders

One of my hobbies is basketball.  I started becoming real serious about it in secondary school (can't quite remember exactly which year), when I used to borrow books from the library and scour the internet for online guides on basketball.  I also watched some of the better players around me, practised what I learned from the books and mimicked others, until I finally mastered the basics.  I never bothered with fancy tricks; basic moves suffice for me, and now I'm quite an established player in my neighbourhood.

In 2002 I set up a basketball team under my neighbourhood Yew Tee Zone 9 RC, named Stagmont Striders.  We were a group of talented individuals. Unfortunately, most of the first batch left after a year due to various reasons and less than a handful of us who pioneered this team still play basketball here. We are actively recruiting members for a younger team consisting of upper primary and lower secondary students from the neighbourhood.  Our philosophy now is just to have a group of basketball players who really enjoy the game and will stick together, and if they are able to compete in tournaments then it would be a big bonus.  From 2007 to 2008, I've coached mostly primary school kids (including 3 girls) every Saturday morning 0830 to 1030 at Stagmont Park basketball court.  I stopped in 2009 due to increasing commitments in grassroots.

Blazing Wolves

Recently, I adopted a team called Blazing Wolves from Blk 706 court, and we're now training every Friday evening.

Looking Ahead

As I don't have formal competition experience, I'm looking forward to obtaining the NCAP Level 1 certification to become a certified coach and help further the team - I couldn't attend the previous two years because it clashed with my school classes - let's hope my working schedule will allow me to attend the next course. I also hope to organize some basketball competitions in the neighbourhood, starting with one leading up to YOG2010.
